Lake Forest Country Day School is updating its policies surrounding mask use and expectations. Although LFCDS will provide structured times when students may remove their masks outdoors at a safe distance from others, there are also outdoor activities for which students will be asked to wear their masks. Unsurprisingly, students struggle to maintain a distance of six feet, especially when given less structured time outdoors together. This new approach focuses on safety and clarity and is consistent with the guidelines at other independent schools who have opened in recent weeks and also comes endorsed by medical professionals leading Independent School Management’s 90-day Campus Reopening Program, which our Reopening Committee has been participating in as we developed our Return to Green Bay Road.

Students will need to bring at least two masks to school each day. Masks must fully cover the nose and mouth. The Mayo Clinic offers an excellent resource on what types of masks will be allowed on campus at LFCDS. Acceptable masks include: homemade masks, surgical/procedural masks, dust masks, N95 masks without vents. Masks with release valves are not permitted. Neck gaiters are prohibited, as well. Guidance for schools from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requires face masks for all individuals on campus age 2 and older. For the safety and health of all members of our community gathering on campus this year, LFCDS is adhering to this guidance without exception. Any students who cannot wear face masks while on campus will be required to enroll as virtual attendees.
